View Full Version : Stupid Ads During Games (was Jewelry Commercials)

They make me want to stick a rusty fork in my eyeball.

It used to be that all you ever saw during football games was beer commercials. What has happened in this world?

Sorry, I just really needed to get this off my chest.

haha its not the cheapness of it that would bother me. Jewelry is supposed to be personal and thoughtful. Buying something you watched on TV that is mass produced? Seems pretty thoughtless to me. I'm sure you could buy jewelry of similar value that has more thought behind it.

DomCasual

I can't decide what's my favorite:

1) The Leo - where random men look at a ring, and breathlessly sigh, "Leo!" Like A) we all have an innate sense of good and bad diamonds; and B) we all just automatically respect one diamond dude so much, we simply appreciate his work. Or,

2) The open heart collection - Jane Seymour is apparently a designer. She came up with a great idea: a rightside-up heart over an upside-down heart. GENIUS! Her life now consists of designing jewelry with this brilliant design. All the other jewelry designers just stand around, waiting until Jane works her magic. They are incapable of drawing this complicated shape. So, she draws it - after which, she holds it ip to the light for the awe-inspired designers to gape at.

I think about these ads, and they make me angry. They make me angry like Tebow success makes Pontius (Butt) Pirate angry.

CBS promotional commercials annoy, as well. "Thank You for making us America's most watched Network..." If you lose the NFL again, that wont be true anymore, if it is in the first place.

I do not care about 60 minutes and Meryl Streep, or Anderson Cooper doing a story off the coast of cuba 60 feet under water. I dont care for Hawaii 5-0...where are they gonna go next? Save a jewish girl from Iran?...I have watched two broke chicks...its not funny.

Fail CBS.

All joking aside, I am not really a jewelry girl. My favorite pieces are as you say personal attachments and not actually worth a lot of money per se.

The commercials are craptacular. I was thinking that during some random commercial that in some ways Euro and English commercials are more creative and funnier. Some are crap of course.

The Viagra ones, with the creepy music, also make me scramble for the remote. "At your age, you know how to get things done!"

Um, gross.

Let's see, what else? The Microsoft commercials, where they set up the computer store in people's living rooms. What? Like, when would that ever be something that people would think was cool?

"Man, what a day at work! I can't wait to get home, put my feet up, and watch the game."

WE JUST TURNED YOUR LIVING ROOM INTO A COMPUTER STORE! YOU WILL LIKE OUR CRAPPY COMPUTERS BECAUSE OF THIS!"

Another one I hate is where they just park a car in the middle of some office buildings and when one person stops to check it out a freaking box opens and a news set flies out. First of all, there would be no interview because (A) Every normal person screams like a little girl in that situation and (B) people either run for their lives or start throwing hay makers, whichever instinct kicks in first. that is just not going to look good to those selling the car.

I for sure can tell you no one just casually talks to the reporter in that case, and there will be a crowd not just one person looking at that car. Then you have a mob.

One more, and then I'm done - unless I think of something else.

The Domino's ads - maybe the dumbest of them all.

When they started apologizing for all the cardboard pizzas they had sold - that was interesting, at first.

Then they kept on and on with it.

Then, they started inviting people to take pictures of the crappy pizzas Domino's was delivering.

And did I mention they kept on going and going with it?

Now, it's the cheese bread. They have apparently been the "worst offenders" with making crappy cheese bread.

And to top it off, they still make disgusting, cardboard pizza.

And, to top it off on top of topping it off, their ad's slogan is, "Oh no, we didn't!" Like we're all sitting at home, slapping our foreheads, proclaiming, "What will these crazy people think of NEXT?" But we're not calling them crazy people in a negative sense! We're calling them crazy in a positive sense - like a person might speak of the funny friend who's always doing outlandish, funny things in their group of friends - the one who gets all the girls. Like, "Zeke, you CRAZY GUY!" (HAHAHAHAHA - isn't Zeke the FUNNIEST? What will that crazy guy think of next! I wish he would marry my sister, so I could be around him ALL THE TIME!)

At some point, you just have to say, "Okay, I admire your honesty. I'm still going to just go ahead and order Papa John's. Sorry, sometimes life is about cause and effect."

Plus, their CEO looks like someone who picks his nose a lot, and faps to the boy's underwear section of the JCPenney catalog.

Whats the one where people don't know the words to Rocket Man? Why did someone need to dig up a song this old and pretend like it's cute how no one knows the words. The reason no one knows the words is because it's a 35 year old song and no one cares...it's not like anyone cares about this song anymore...except in this stupid commercial.

This is one aspect of the human experience that really didn't need to be explored on a commercial.

And another stupid thing about it is, it's a baby boomer song and most of the people singing to it in the commercial are Gen Y and Gen X. It almost seems like some it was some a-hole baby boomers idea because he/she assumes everyone likes music from his/her generation. Like the world needs one more self-centered baby boomer.

No, I can see why they used Rocket Man, because those lyrics are infamous for being gotten wrong by idiots trying to sing it, regardless of their generation. Same thing with Hendrix and "excuse me while I kiss this guy", and many others.

Doesn't change the fact that it's a stupid f***ing commercial.

Also, I can't imagine that the NFL audience is the target demographic for a Fiat commercial. There are groups of highly paid individuals to analyze this, and apparently they disagree with my assertion.

Only commercials I can stand have ridiculous (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w34kGqZb52c) eye-candy in them. Hipsters (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGrDMVk2isc), even.

Another one that I remembered tonight is those stupid Neanderthal Geico commercials.

I thought they were stupid from the beginning; but I think that puts me in the minority. I know a lot of people loved them. It's hard to imagine anyone still thinks they're clever, at this point.

Every time they come on now, I feel like saying, "Oh come on, get over yourself!" It's like the lispy little freak just walks around, looking for things to get offended over.

And I love how their big star is Brian Orakpo. There's noting wrong with Orakpo, mind you. But no one, outside of NFL fans, would have any idea who he is.

I was thinking the same thing... Just like the lexus commercials, Who has 5 grand for jewelry or 50k for a car to give as a gift?

To be fair, the ad execs knew not to put those commercials in the Kansas City market.

Lol. If you're shopping at Zales to impress your women, she's looking to bang someone else.

Wasnt it Kobe who went to Zales because he already banged someone else?

For me I tape the games DVR, and fast forward through 98% of the crap..

I usually get to the end of the game about when the games is over..

I instruct my kids, friends, Wife not to text me or tell me about the game till I send them an all clear..

The last game was the only one I did not do that with.

Must be the reason we lost.. Although at half time I did watch part of a movie, and we seemed to play better without me watching.. SO I'll be watching White Christmas on saturday..at least for a while so I do not jinx them again..

Sorry folks that I blew it for Y'all last week..

watching the games on game pass in the UK you get all the american commercials. it was a novelty for a while but now the breaks are so often it is horrible. Just be grateful you have access to the fast food in the ads. No taco bell no subs with seemingly endless steak and if i dont get one of those pizza hut $20 dinner box things soon i'm gonna go crazy.

also the thing i never noticed until someone pointed it out and now it drives me crazy, people cant drink in american beer commercials. do not understand that.

I fully agree with the comments about the jewellry. How annoyed would you be if you received the piece of tacky crap that has been nationally advertised as cheap crap and all your friends have seen is cheap crap on the million times the commercial has aired.

Man living in Germany for years and not getting commercials except the ones made by the military I can appreciate this comment.

I also never even thought about drinking beer in ads until you just said it.

I find the McDonalds commercials to be pretty funny. Who the F eats a Big Mac leaned up against a brick wall in an alley??

I'm way beyond annoyed with the Ford commercials..Dennis Leary going on like 8 years in those commercials.

I'm sure that everybody has noticed by now that if you visit other sites you might be dragging their ads around with you, on the Mane, for example. Fortunately, I spent some time at the Aston Martin site the other day and now some really nice Aston Martins are populating the banners above the board. ;D

I don't know what others are seeing as the banner ad at the top of the page right now, but I'm seeing an ad for a Jets Mastercard saying, "Show your colors!" This is sacrilege!
