View Full Version : How the GOP Went Completely Mad

By Bush speech writer David Frum

I’ve been a Republican all my adult life. But as I contemplate my party in 2011, I see things I simply cannot support.

America desperately needs a responsible and compassionate alternative to Obama. And yet:

This past summer, the GOP nearly forced America to the verge of default just to score a point in a budget debate. In the throes of the worst economic crisis since the Depression, Republican politicians demand massive budget cuts and shrug off the concerns of the unemployed. In the face of dwindling upward mobility and long-stagnating middle-class wages, my party’s economic ideas seem to have shrunk to just one: more tax cuts for the very highest earners. When I entered GOP politics, the movement got most of the big questions—crime, inflation, the Cold War—right.

This time, the party is getting the big questions disastrously wrong.

True that.

2012 Will Be The Year Of Republican Hypocrisy (http://www.addictinginfo.org/2011/12/21/2012-will-be-the-year-of-republican-hypocrisy/)

The Republican Party have two options to go up against President Obama: Newt Gingrich or Mitt Romney. When the Republican voters go out to the polls at the beginning of the year the majority of them will vote for a person who has a background that these voters blasted years ago.

...A reader adds:

The quote of the day is perfect. We all know the GOP is insane, but I like to think that it was Barack Obama that drove them there. They really have lost their collective sh*t over him. For me, the last three years looks like a great big tantrum that a child might throw when they don't get their way. Why, they can't even vote for the payroll tax cut that they all agree upon lest they give Obama some scintilla of success.

If the GOP wins in 2012, wouldn't that be an endorsement of this kind of behavior? Wouldn't it be like the parent who gives in to the brat throwing the tantrum? This party needs to destroy itself so that it can rise again. What better way to do that than by nominating Ron Paul? If Ron Paul wins Iowa and gets close in NH, then watch out. It will be mutiny. Personally, I can't wait.

The political process is lost. Both parties are dysfunctional -- totally controlled by big money.

Goldman Sachs rules America.

Where do we go from here?

No one seems to know. The occupy movement is a step in the right direction.

This just in.... Since Boner's position is basically indefensible, I have nothing to say about the thread topic. Therefore, my only recourse is to attack the messenger, try to flip the script, etc. That is all.

Fixed.

The rightards believe all they need to do is to continue slobbing the knobs of the plutocrats, and eventually the rising tide of spittle will raise all their boats.

URGENT PETITION: Stand with President Obama against the Tea Party tax hike! (http://dems.me/rrg8Wd)

House Republicans just blocked a bipartisan Senate proposal to extend the payroll tax cut, meaning 160 million Americans will see a $1,000 tax hike on January 1st, 2012. Stand with President Obama against the Tea Party tax hike!

The White House’s embrace of payroll tax cut, properly understood, should be a boon to the right, since it involves a Democratic president tacitly admitting that Social Security isn’t really pay-as-you-go, that the trust fund is more a gimmick than a lockbox, and that America’s retirement system could be just as easily paid for out of general revenue rather than through a counterproductive tax on employment and work. Instead, the debate as it’s unfolded has made the Republicans look ideologically confused, politically disorganized, and loath to champion policies that directly benefit the middle class. As the overture to an election year, it’s been the poorest possible advertisement for conservative governance.

The Great Republican Crackup: How Angry, White, Southern Men Took Over the GOP and Made Our Government Into a War Zone

The GOP's radicalism is dangerous for America. We need two political parties solidly grounded in the realities of governing.

In your case, it's just further evidence you're a moron who has no thoughts of his own re: the OP.

So your hero GeeDubya's speech writer is an "infant?"

Oh, that's right - you haven't actually argued with anything he said.

On Wednesday, December 28, 2011, the GOP of Virginia sought and obtained the right from the Virginia State Board of Elections to require voters to sign a loyalty oath in order to participate in the state’s presidential primary on March 6. Basically, Virginia voters--who have open primaries--meaning ...
