View Full Version : Compromising ourselves to death?
Every month the Republicans get a new front-runner. How many times has the lead changed now? How much of this is driven by those in the media has been telling conservatives has the best chance at beating Obama verses who they think represents their values?
Based on the fact that Gingrich is polling worse than Romney (when put against Obama) and as Gingrich has had his moral problems, has publicly stated that Woodrow Wilson and FDR were great presidents (both of who raised tax rates significantly 77%, and 90% top tax rates respectively – why is he out in front still? We are not voting for a debate team president, are we? I am finding it hard to believe that conservatives really know who he is...

I'm not a Republican, but here's the thing. These polls are a joke. Stop reading the polls and whom every friggin' blogger--Neo Con, Conservative, RINO, LIbertarian, etc--is saying. It's early, still.
When you make peace with the fact that every media outlet (mainstream and other) fancies itself a 'king maker', you can then take a step back, breathe a little, do your best to understand each candidate's record, views, and promises, and vote in your primary with an informed conscience.
There is no perfect candidate. Reagan himself was not a perfect candidate. The only perfect candidate is the one that makes Obama a one term president.

It's the responsibility of a citizen in a republic to educate themselves. There are plenty of resources available out there.

That's they key isn’t it? I guess to be honest, I don’t care who folks vote for so long as they are putting in the time to learn what various politicians believe, and then voting based on that earned (not regugitated)knowledge. Yet, what I do think is very dangerous (right or left) is to vote for a president based on the letter after their name. In my opinion, "growing support" for Gingrich as an R cannot be founded on anything other than the herd mentality, as he holds so many statist views. It appears that some folks want so badly to beat Obama that they are quickly jumping from bandwagon to bandwagon hoping to create momentum and a false consensus. During the primaries is one of the few times when a people can really make a difference and put forth someone who would be very different than Obama – if folks don’t like the message of a Bachman, Santorum or a Ron Paul – fine, but at least they would likely attempt to shrink the size and intrusiveness of the federal government (that is my hope anyway.) I believe that Obama thinks that government is the only solution to most problems we face -- It appears that Gingrich sees the world through that same prism -- so although they might appoint different justices, and push for different tax structures etc -- when it comes to bailouts and causing the country to go bankrupt -- they will act the same. Under both Gingrich and Obama the dollar pops, chaos grows, capitalism is blamed, and we lose freedom.
The focus of bickering, energy and effort is always about left and right, when it should be about freedom vs. tyranny -- regardless of which party it comes from. The question should be which candidate (if any) would maximize long-term freedom for the Republic?

The average public is uninformed on even the basic topics and the media knows this they know the average joe comes home and watches one media source and then goes to bed thinking he been given all the facts ( sadly hes/shes wrong) we need a unbiased news outlet that reports everything good or bad and we don't have that and that whats killin this country.

You Right Wingers are funny. Who is your new flavor of the month this month?

They lean right, but they do have left of center voices, while on the other hand I think it is fair to say that the general media has fewer folks on staff that can be considered right of center.
To me it seemed that 30 years ago the "mainsteam" media ABC, CBS and NBC at least tried to come accross as being objective.

This week it will be Romney -- I heard he pulled ahead of Gingrich. I think finally folks are learning more about the g-man and dont like some of his statist views.

Stop paying attention to the media and the polls. Vote for the candidate that you feel represents you the best. Why would anyone vote for someone based on who the polls say everyone else is gonna vote for?

I wont vote based on a poll, but i do think they are interesting. In the primaries I see no reason why I should settle.

and this is going to sound wrong, but it should be a requirement to vote

This nonsense would go away if the electoral process were cut to 90 days.
The system has become a farce that desperately needs updating.
The Founders would have made changes long ago had they known about the variable methods of instant communication now available.
We no longer live in a time of smoke signals, mail by horse and 13 colonies with town criers. Yet the electoral process plods along as if we still live in the 18th Century.

has publicly stated that Woodrow Wilson and FDR were great presidents
If this is a serious negative from the viewpoint of GOP voters y'all have serious problems.
The GOP field is like a joke you can't quite remember. So you start from the beginning over and over until you finally push through and at the end someone looks at your long, pointless effort and says, "That wasn't funny."
