View Full Version : Sandy Eggo OL to wear name tags in huddle this week

Bad news for Rivers.

The major injury issues for the San Diego Chargers along the offensive line are continuing. The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that key backup Scott Mruczkowski will be placed on the injured reserve after he suffered a concussion on Sunday at Chicago — the Chargers' fifth consecutive loss.

Standout guard Kris Dielman was put on the injured reserve last week with a concussion; Mruczkowski was playing for Dielman. The Chargers are also playing without starting offensive linemen Marcus McNeill and Louis Vasquez — and Vasquez's backup, Tyronne Green, is dealing with an injury, too.

San Diego signed three offensive linemen last week. It could now sign another one to replace Mruczkowski.

Rivers is already near the top of the league in sacks this year.

In the first game with Sandy Eggo the Broncos sacked Rivers 5 times. Now that Doom is back in form, and Von has become a beast, it will be interesting to watch them vs the makeshift Charger OL.

Wow.

Rivers is in trouble.

Von could have 3 or 4 sacks this Sunday. Same goes for Doom.

This could be a week heavy in picks and sacks.

Good time to pick up and play the Denver defense in fantasy football.

I actually considered the same thing, but the recent history of Rivers playing well against Denver ultimately made me not pick them up. If we're blitzing all day, eventually Rivers is going to start throwing a ton of screens and he's going to just throw it up and letting his receivers make a play on it deep. He's going to get hit a lot though.

I think they have no choice here but to go with some 2 TE sets to help protect him on passing plays. I also look for them to run probably more then they normally do. I think they are hoping and praying Rivers can have under 30 attempts.

If Chargers go max protect and play small ball that plays to our strengths. Usually they just run it down our throats and bombs away, but with so many problems on the oline they may not win those battles inside anymore. Bunkley played will vs better dlines last couple weeks and Miller and Doom been killing qbs.

Going to be interesting to see if we can finally beat Rivers. I won't lie i hear this little voice telling me broncos QB killers all the sudden, Rivers may take some shots.

I'm a little scared now because we're like going to be favorites in this game I think. For maybe the first time this season?

It's an infirmary for that line. Rivers isn't a "make something out of nothing" QB.

I thought wickersham picked us last week? Yeah I checked he did. Weird you would think Chargers losing so many in a row, us winning so many, more would pick us. I think it's very likely Broncos win. That oline is in utter disarray.

Seems like he would be yeah, Broncos, came through for me, and pick them again. I mean SD on the ropes, number 2 wr out, LT out, best OG out, his bkup out, another starting guard out. Not to mention best dlineman out from way earlier in the yr in Castillo.

Just really a team riddled with injuries.

Chargers probably have 7 or 8 different screen, 4-5 different draw plays for us Sunday. If Miller was smart he would be a student of the game and study up on every draw and screen they have run last 2 yrs. Sniff them out and go to the next level. The rush backer who sniffs out screens and destroys hapless RBs.

Blitz anybody and everybody early. Their backup QB is Billy Volek, but would rather just watch Rivers take a beating.

The rest of their team is trash too.

Kind of odd to be talking about a "trap game" for the Broncos. It's been awhile.

I don't think a team that has spanked us so many times can be a trap game but whatever. If anything it's more licking chops, really geared up, wanting to get a win over them. Trap games are more the these guys are chumps.

No way Broncos defense or offense feels like that IMO. One they haven't scored enough. So both sides no its going to be a battle for points. I'm assuming Chargers will copy the Jets? Use smaller athletic players to set the edges? Who are those players going to be? Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Well, at least we now know what the national headline will be when we win:

"Denver beats injury ridden Chargers team."

They'll minimize the win and emphasize that we simply took advantage of a bad situation for San Diego. :facepalm

normally before each game this season I feel dred and trepidation, so much so, I have to look up the spelling!
But those FEARS have been replaced by genuine optimism!
we all know that JE and the EFX group are goping to bring the TEBOW THING to an end NEXT YEAR, menawhile...
lets all enjoy the improbable wins and late game heroics until they pull the plug!
DEFENSE, best its been in years and showing improvement every week!
special teams/ colquitt, I no longer have to close my eyes and 'take a tebow" when these guys take the field.
Mcgehee, he is legit, just gotta stay healthy.
and our O-line would make alex gibbs proud!
Go Broncos !

We have to shut down the run early or the rest wont matter. Rivers has always picked our secondary apart for the first 2-3 quarters. I hope our Goodman and Carter and Dawkins ready to play. We all know Champ is ready...he loves him a Rivers ball.

What's screwy is that Norv is very good at game planning for situations like this. We had essentially the same OL last week against Chicago and I don't think Rivers was sacked once. There were obviously a ton of screens, but Jackson and Gates still managed to get deep at times. Jackson had like 170 yards on maybe 6 receptions. His colossal failures as head coach aside, Norv can still be brilliant as an offensive game planner.

My main fear is that the Chargers D is going to look befuddled when Denver runs it on 90% of downs. Greg Manusky has been a huge bust as d coordinator.

Rivers is still playing his heart out, but some of his decisions just drop my jaw. Even as a Chargers fan, you have to admit that Rivers seems to be "chucking it up" a lot into tight coverage and just hoping his over-sized receivers come down with it. It's odd, because I always thought Rivers was a pretty good decision maker, but he seems to be playing with a little more desperation lately.

I think he's just having a bad year. After last year, I think he knows that anything less than an amazing performance by him isn't going to win the Chargers many ball games, and so he's pressing for that amazing performance on every down.

We got to Rivers 5 times last game. I just don't see anyway Chargers can block Doom and Miller and still get Jackson deep. We will see but Doom and Miller just coming off the edge so quick right now. Honestly I don't think the Bears pass rush even in the same league. They are stouter then Denver overall but I think Broncos pass rush getting special.

We will see though because RIvers seems to play his best vs Denver.

Well our offensive tackles are going to struggle against even middling edge rushers (Cameron Wimbley - 3.5 sacks), but Norv is pretty good at game planning for it when its an anticipated issue. I figured that Julius Peppers would just embarrass our LT Dombrowski and be eating Phillip's lunch on every play, but he wasn't more of a factor than he normally is. The game plan will reflect the situation once more I'm sure. Lots of draws, screens, play action, etc and hopefully staying out of obvious passing downs.

I was saying in another thread that if Miller was smart, he would go watch every draw and screen Chargers have ran for the last 2 yrs. You just know they are going to have 3-4 different ones planned.

In Madden last night I played Sandy Eggo. I sacked Rivers 13 times, picked him off 3 times and forced Matthews to fumble the ball 3 times. Held their offense to 35 total yards.

I am not sure if that is a good omen or a bad omen.

This year Rivers is being protected by no-name lineman found at your local Burger King and Walmart McDonald's...

Every time it seems like a surefire sackfest on an opposing QB it always ends up being an empty stat line for the pass rushers. In the SD games i've watched this season they don't look as bad as advertised but I hope Von/Doom have a huge day.
