It’s been a big year for rookies in the NFL, especially in Week 11.

Ravens wideout Torrey Smith won the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Week award, while Denver’s Von Miller won the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Week Award for the week.

Smith has quickly emerged as Baltimore’s best big play threat. The Ravens’ last two huge division wins were largely because of Smith. Miller has quickly grown into one of the league’s best pass rushers of any age.

Patriots return man Julian Edelman won the Special Teams Player of the Week award after returning a punt for a touchdown and making a special teams tackle. (Edelman was not considered for the defensive award, although he did play some slot cornerback.)

For the first time in more than two seasons, the Broncos have an AFC Player of the Week. Rookie linebacker/pass rusher Von Miller got the award for the way he destroyed Mark Sanchez and the Jets before a national cable audience last Thursday night.

Besides his 1 1/2 sacks, giving him 9 1/2 in 10 games this season, Miller had a career-high 10 tackles, three tackles for a loss, four hits on Sanchez, one forced fumble and one pass defensed in the Broncos’ 17-13 win against Rex Ryan’s Jets.

Yeah, yeah, but what about Tebow?

The last Bronco to win this defensive award was cornerback Champ Bailey in Week 4 of 2009.

I hope Von's helmet has to be surgically removed from Rivers spine after the game.

In their one liners this morning, PFT had an article about how "some fans fear Miller will be a one year wonder".

I didn't even click. I didn't feel like even subjecting myself to the logic of such a theory.

he was hurting Sanchez bad in that game. we need someone to make a gif of his sack at the end of the game, where he just abuses their right tackle and drives Sanchez into the ground.

Prob the fear of Jevon Kearse 2.0.

Started his career with a the rookie sack record. Downhill from there.

that is a very dumb article. those 1 year wonders are guys who have great half seasons and then begin to fold as the season goes on usually. in the case of Miller he is getting better as the season goes. he is seemingly setting up to explode next season. a return to form of Doom the rest of this year and next season makes it impossible to double team either of these guys. we just need an offense that can get out front early so Allen can unleash his big dogs to rip QB heads off.

RT @psmyth12: Von Miller and Minnesota's Jared Allen are the only players in the NFL with 30+tackles, 9+sacks and 3+forced fumbles. #Broncos

What a pick!

Back in time.....

Choosing Miller with the second overall pick offered a wide glimpse into the Broncos' future on Elway's watch. Twenty eight years after he manipulated the draft to his own liking and landed with Denver, Elway tweeted of Miller:

"We think he's the most explosive and best player in this draft."

We have not had a defensive player this explosive since Steve Atwater.

Al Wilson was close, but not quite as explosive.

Its exciting to have such a talent on the team. He's probably the best OLB in the NFL already. He's having an all-pro season as a rookie. A couple of years down the line, this guy is potentially the best defensive player in the NFL...especially considering how much this league has become pass-favored. If Von continues to improve and puts the work in to be great, he could have a 20 sack season.

Well, it only mentions TT. Maybe if you wrote something about how Miller affects TT's play, it would sell better. The maniaccs would be all over it.

On a serious note., Miller is wroth watching because he makes the D look better, and I think QBs are gonna hate him just like they hate Harrison.....

Miller has by far exceeded my expectations and the impact he has had on this team has been amazing. We can only hope the Broncos can find another prospect at similar levels in the secondary (CB) and defensive line (DT) moving forward.

Have to admit that I was a little disappointed when the Broncos drafted Miller. Was hoping they would go DT and pick up Dareus or Fairley.

Sure glad I wasn't picking... Don't think there should be any question that Miller gets DROY and a spot in the probowl.

If OP hadTEBOW in the title, it would be at 3 pages easily. Shows where those brand new fans are now. Tebow and only Tebow. If you are going to jump on our bandwagon, enjoy the whole team not just bits and pieces.
As for Von Miller, congrats on one of many to come. Our #1 pick is looking like a pure winner with leadership qualities. Hopefully there is more to come with him (and there will be) and also with future draft picks.

To be fair, the media isn't generating story after story on Von Miller.

Like it or not, thats how most people become aware of storylines. Blame ESPN for becoming the Tim Tebow network. Personally, I dont mind it at all because the nonstop coverage of Tebow means more people watching Broncos games. Thats good for every player on the Broncos, including Von Miller. As more people begin paying attention to the Broncos, the more people will say "Is that freakish guy wearing #58 Von Miller?", the more people will notice that Champ is still one of the best in the game, the more people will notice the young Broncos OL doing a nice job, etc.

I guarantee you that the players see theis added coverage as an oportunity to get on highlight reels. Thats great for the team.

"I think it means more for my teammates than it does for me," Miller said. "It's a sign of the type of defense we want to play, and everybody on the field was ballin'. When you play defense like that, they have to give the trophy to somebody, and I guess they gave it to me."

Yep. And as Tebow said to Skip Bayless, once he has finished shouting out God, he likes to shout out his own teammates and give them the glory. It's all good.

BTW...I *knew* Von was going to be huge once I saw him wearing glasses...he looks so damn cerebral. Here he is on the floor of the stock exchange:
