My guess, Orton believes he could outplay Hanie, has had his agent talk to Chicago, and asked for a release to accommodate a move there. He knows the offense and sees a chance to ressurect his career by taking Chicago as far as he can in the playoffs.

Here's a theory (completely unfounded, of course): Fox approached Orton about the possibility of playing as a change of pace between the 20's, like Florida did with Chris Leak. Orton told him to go to hell (because he's a great locker room guy and a real team player). EFX showed him the door.

I think it's more just save the money, give Orton a shot to play somewhere so his career has a chance to stay on track. Not saying I like it, but whatever. It could make other vets around the league say Broncos don't get all vindictive like Bengals were with Palmer so I would rather play there etc etc.

If Orton beats us then so be it. But if we aren't good enough to win without worrying about that then we don't deserve the playoffs anyways. Still its odd to release a QB to teams that may need him.

The things they're putting out are:

Orton's agent pushed for his release after Cutler injury

Orton is interested in returning to Chicago

Chicago is expected to either put in a claim or sign him as an FA (Apparently under the assumption that if he made it all the way to Chicago on waivers, he'd keep slipping through if they didn't claim him)

Agreed. I think it really just comes down to Houston and their thoughts on Leinart. If they really believe in him (and I think they sincerely do), I don't think anyone claims him. By the time he's even functional, we're looking at AT LEAST week 14 or 15. Who wants to pick up $2.5M salary to eek out a week 15 win? At this point, they can call it developmental time, save some money, and get through the season.

More things I've found over at PFT (It's really where I check aside from the Mane)

Teams could grab him to force a Chicago slide and hope to steal that other wild card spot. When people mentioned it above, I was thinking in the sense of a head to head game or something. I didn't think about the bigger impact it'd have on Chicago which could put them back at a .500 squad before Cutler is healed.

Also, though the $2.5M would suck, whoever lets him go into FA gets the comp pick for him. It's essentially a chance to buy a better shot at the playoffs and a draft pick.

Orton found a secret underground bunker underneath Terminal B at DIA. Inside, they were working on antigrav using a wire brush, a hair dryer and a 1901 penny. On the other side of the bunker they were teaching disinformation techniques to Zionists who were planning on launching a nuclear attack on Iran on December 1st. The agents were being taught by a member of the lollipop guild, who oddly enough is 6'6. His name is Padmere, and he enjoys those cute kitten photos...which are really coded messages from Seti Alpha V.
