Broncos sign Jeremiah Johnson

I sure like what I saw from him in preseason this year. He did great for the Ducks. What are you thoughts ??

As long as Tebow baptizes him with the tears of allah we should be fine.

2010 Preseason runs. Starts off with a few pics but then goes into videotape of his runs.

A great build for an NFL runner at 5'9 215. Runs with good leverage and power. Also has good speed (4.4 40yard). Has the ability to change directions very fast for a back that's 215. Seems to dance/hesitate a bit too often but not as bad as Moreno was his last 2 years. I'm glad we're giving this kid a shot. He could be a good one. Shall be fun to watch.

Looked @ the YouTube videos of JJ. Not terribly impressed. He seems to run right into the pile most of the time and get 1 yard.

I dunno think I like this. Moreno seemed to really step up gainst the Chefs but really nobody else so what have we got to lose here.

We find if he has anything to contribute and hell you never know ?

Agree with everything above...however, if you want to see something fun/encouraging. Go back and watch the film on him from his college days at Oregon...in the spread/read option. This could get interesting.

How come he hasn't been able to stick somewhere?

Look at the RBs at Houston and Carolina.

Pretty easy to see how a guy gets shoved down those depth charts.

Thing is, if Willie is healthy... he and Lance take 90% of the carries, I'd think.

No one else runs the read option.

He ran a 4.71 at the combine, where you getting a 4.4 from?

4.62 at the combine and 4.57 at pro day...?

I don't doubt you Rev. Someone needs to post a link. With some folks claiming he smoked Deven Hester in a footrace and others claiming he got smoked by a retired Mike Alstot. A link would be nice.

Are we still really stuck on 40 times?

I like the fact that he has very good vision, hit the hole running notrh-south with a low pad level, and drags defenders for an extra 1-2 yards after contact. He looks pleanty fast enough to go the distance if the hole opens up properly. I'm rooting for this kid (but I always root for our underdog running backs).

Most exciting RB in preseason...too bad injuries forced him into this role, but I'm glad to see him again. Should have never been cut.

Nice article from Lindsay:

I also felt bad about alluding to JJ's play at Oregon in the spread read so:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWhvFsttcqY

No audio on this one, sorry.

Also found this one from an Oregon paper about him falling in the draft:

http://blog.oregonlive.com/nfl/2009/04/nfl_draft_uos_johnson_goes_und.html

I don't know how he'll do or how much of a chance he'll get this week. However, I have a funny feeling that if Willis shows any sign of trouble with the hammy they'll shut him down. JJ should also get quite a few reps in limited practice this week as Ball is pretty beat up after 30 carries and I don't think Willis needs the reps at this point with the injury. Hope JJ takes full advantage of any opportunities that come his way. He's been around the league long enough now to know how rare they are. How cool would it be to have "The Mountain Man" bust lose for the team from the Rocky Mountains and become the next great back in Denver? I'm talking TD and Floyd great, blasphemy I know....but hey, dream big right?

If he is the only back we added, it may be a good sign for McGahee. With the way we run, I doubt we go into a game with only two RBs.

Here's how I see it - pls let me know if I'm way off base.

Ball = solid, all around back-up caliber RB. Does nothing spectacular, does everything good enough to make a 53 man roster.

JJ = more explosive back, better vision. Maybe more deficient in terms of running routes, pass blocking, and short yardage.

Ball is the guy you want in to spell McGahee, JJ is the guy who you want to replace McGahee's production with should McGahee go down.

Fantasy footballers - I say get JJ now, considering McGahees's two injuries.

Hopefully Jeremiah Johnson will get 10-12 carries if Willis can't go. I like that he seems to have decent one cut and go vision and maintains a decent pad level, which are two things that Moreno really struggled with. Johnson is obviously comfortable in a spread offense with a mobile QB too. Hopefully, Denver will spread the Jets out a bit and Tebow will hit some one-on-ones in space, because they are going to overload the line and fire the **** out of the A gaps. I don't think this team can beat a Ryan defense throwing 10 times, and Ball is not going to be able to sustain another 30 carry game.
