This is a local article about current Bronco and former KU defensive back Chris Harris. It's interesting. The national media isn't going to write about Chris Harris...

Maybe this kid can replace Goodman. In that case -- we could draft another top LB or DL next April -- instead of focusing on a CB.

sydquan will be back next year as well, no? he and harris seem to have some ability, but i think we still might get a veteran CB since young CB's can be pretty erratic.

When he ran down Breaston on that crossing pattern when they tried to pick him off the speed he showed was great. Might be the 3nd best pickup these year for us. Miller and Franklin #1 and #2

I'd put Bunkley ahead of Franklin. So Miller, Bunkley, Franklin and Harris. I dont want to think about our DT situation if Denver did not swing that trade.

why?

Why what? Chris Harris went to school at Kansas, so it has local appeal. The national media won't focus on Harris because he hasn't caught the eye of the media gatekeepers in New York and California...

Thompson and Harris are good nickel corners for this defense. The problem is we need to replace Goodman and find an heir to Bailey. The great thing for the Broncos in this draft is that there are going to be quality corners on board when they are selecting in each of the first three rounds. I think with the QBs coming out, Richardson, some top flight OL and ILB, and the necessity for a pass rusher on teams picking ahead of us (currently) that CB is a position that will fall in the draft. Perhaps due to the incredible depth as well.

Harris has made us completely forget about Perrish Cox, who was playing pretty well last year, IIRC.

I've been very impressed with the kid - seems to make a lot of plays. Glad to see a thread for him.

Ok, but I wouldn't have expected them to. It'd be nice if the Den writers were write about ANYTHING but tebow. Nice article though. Aside from his college and him being signed as a FA I didn't know anything about him. Signing him was a nice personnel move. Special team ability and at least a slot corner as an undrafted FA.

I mentioned Harris last week after the Raiders game as a guy that stood out.

Made 9 something solo tackles and a few were against a 240+ lb Bush. I don't know about being a starting corner but he's surpassed Wilhite/Vaughn as nickel back for a good reason the last three weeks.

Teams were targetting those guys but since Harris took over he gives up very little and makes good tackles. The kid is a player.

Harris has been great so far.

Its great that he has the opportunity to play with Champ, not only for the 1-1 mentorship, but because Harris is the guy that they are likely to pick on, thus more reps and chances to learn.

Wilhite has a knack for blitzing the QB too, fun to watch!

He has had a presence on special teams all season, and he is making the most of his opportunities.

He struggled early in the season, but you can see that he and the coaches are doing a good job of adjusting and growing him within the system.

Gotta love it when UDFA's have success.

i truly believe that by the end of the season Harris will be starting opposite Champ and i also believe that had "Squid" Thompson not gotten injured he would be starting right now.

i still think the best young safety on the team is sitting on the Practice Squad. (Kyle McCarthy)

Are you saying he struggled from the bench "early in the season"? Because he just started getting defensive snaps a few weeks ago...

If you count the Green Bay game as "a few weeks ago" then you'd be correct.

Most people don't say "a few" when they refer to 5, though.

So here's a question for you all: Is Harris a better corner or a better safety?I'd go with Safety. He's great covering the underneath stuff as the nickle...but, putting him on an island outside would be a lot different. We'd have to see how he held up out there, before we could say one way or the other. He'd be a good free safety from what I've seen...He's got good cover and ball skills.

He struggled in coverage against Green Bay, and before he made a play in OT against the Dolphins, he worried me quite a bit.

This past week he was cleaning up in tackling though and he has been consistent in making timely plays, which is impressive as a rook.

Harris has looked good at times this year and that's really what you want to see from young players. That helps give you some depth when you can bring young players in and they can make some key plays. There will be times when they struggle, but that's expected. We'll need some of these young guys to keep improving though. Playing well against mediocre and bad teams is one thing. We need players to step up and play well against the good teams. I like what Harris is doing lately.

Honestly though, I still think our biggest need will be LB and DB's. Bunkley is playing great and with Ty coming back next year, I no longer think we need to spend a 1st rounder on a DT.

I think if we stick with Tebow as the starter for next year, I'd love to see the Broncos get a premier blocking TE.

After grading this team through the 1st half - this is what I'd like to see us get next year either trade, FA or draft.

QB
TE
CB
LB
RB
DE
DT

So here's a question for you all: Is Harris a better corner or a better safety?

Not meaning to dismiss your question. If the guy can displace a current starter and upgrade the team, I really don't care. It is kind of like the same question, was Billy Thompson a better corner or a better safety. If Chris Harris makes the starting role in either location, he will make the defense better which is a step forward for a team that needs improvement in so many areas. As we did with Rod Smith, any undrafted player with a long term starting role is personally satisfying because those individuals are usually role models with great work ethic which you can't have enough of.

Actually I think it's a good question by Kaylore.

I didn't follow his college career but the guy was moved around a lot and played every DB position which no doubt hampered his development and draft status.

He's contributing now as a nickel back and should stay there in my opinion. Vaughn/Wilhite were tried at nickel back and couldn't cover anything.
