Voters in Ohio have approved a ballot measure intended to keep government from requiring Ohioans to participate in any health care system.
The constitutional amendment passed is largely symbolic, coming in response to the 2009 federal health care overhaul, a provision of which mandates that most Americans purchase health care.
Supporters hope it will prompt a challenge of the overhaul before the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Tea Party and Republican groups backing the amendment say the Affordable Care Act was an overreach by the Obama administration and Congress.
They hope approval of the ballot issue will bar Ohio from instituting a state-mandated health insurance program like that of Massachusetts.
Opponents argued state law can’t trump federal law and that the amendment’s wording could unintentionally jeopardize state health programs.

A conservative-leaning appeals court panel on Tuesday upheld the constitutionality of President Barack Obama's health care law, as the Supreme Court prepares to consider this week whether to resolve conflicting rulings over the law's requirement that all Americans buy health care insurance.

I hate to phrase it this way:
I think the "vested interest" in nat'l healthcare will get it to pass:
Due to the healthcare companies involvement in writing the terms of legislation, and the gov't encroachment on privacy (hey, you have none!) is why this is such a massively bad idea.
Now, if I could get a $5k tax credit to go buy insurance - and pick a provider - i'd be cool with that. Yes, I know that is socialism (subsidy (tax break)) - but that would make me buy it much quicker.

Republican ideas rarely if ever work.
I wish it were true. When I first started in the IT industry: Even if you were a "contractor"/"consultant" - you were given benefits: a few days off, some healthcare.
Now, these companies want to charge you in excess of over $300/mo to "buy in", and no time off for illness, etc. There's no incentive to buy healthcare at these rates.
Due to the lack of competition, i worry about "fixed markets", and collusion between "competitors", when they can buy and write the legislation.
The Game just feels "rigged" - and I wish there was a magick answer to solve all the ills, but in reality - it's going to take much sacrifice, compassion, and the willingness to want to do the heavy lifting now.
I'm in my early 30's, i'd rather do the lifting now - than when i'm 50 or 60.

Everyone who is a hard worker should have access to a chance to live if they get sick period. I think for regular healthcare govt should stay out. But a govt ran program for people who get cancer etc, or a really bad accident and need tons of surgery etc wouldn't seem to outlandish. We have to figure out a way to temper the everyone should be responsible for themselves, with sometimes people have bad luck and need help.
As far as making healthcare cheaper maybe we could give more tax breaks to open new hospitals, make education for doctors cheaper. Flood the market to drive down costs?
