He goes by the name Elvis Dumervil, and was once the sack leader.

I'd be crying too if I got a million dollars per tackle.

The guy had a season ending injury in preseason/practice last year, no ota's this year and you're shocked he's not up to snuff yet? WTF did you expect?

When the 3-4 went away so did Doom I'm sorry to say.

As I recall when we went to the 3-4 many people here were concerned he would no longer be productive. He'll be fine if he can get healthy.

Was definitely expecting a lot more than 0 sacks at this point in the season. That's been our luck though...

I thought he looked great in preseason, the injuries have really been affecting him.

Exactly. It was so fun to watch him and Von essentially race to the QB each passing down. Elvis looked like he was back in pro bowl form. Then the injury before the opening game, and he hasn't looked anything like that since. One injury after another. He gets a few good pressures per game but nothing like what we are used to seeing from him, and he hasn't finished any plays with sacks and/or strips. Hoping this changes soon

One of the problems with him at this point is that when he's not getting after the QB (and he's not)... he's already somewhat of a liability against the run, from what I can tell.
Meaning... he's a real weak spot out there for us right now.

Very hard to say what's going on until he's healthy, though.

Somewhat a weak spot? Terrible run defender.

We've got a decision to make about him by next year if he doesn't improve. Hate to say it, but if he can't stay healthy... and he's one-dimensional even when he is healthy, that doesn't bode well for building a dominant line.

Ayers is a solid starter on one side. We may need to look at another option for next year if something doesn't click soon. Of course, there's a massive contract issue to deal with.

Elvis has already been paid all of his bonuses that were in his contract, but you are likely right on getting demand for a guy who is averaging ~ 11-14 million dollars a year through its duration.

This has to be 90% injury causing this though, right? I mean, he was an effective 4-3 pass-rusher in the past.

We need to bring in a legitimate every down DE next year on the cheap, if we can. Not a big numbers guy, but someone who can allow Elvis to rotate in on passing downs... or maybe 2nd and 3rd downs.

I don't know... something needs to happen.

Definitely. The bottom line for me is that Denver can never be a competent first down / run defense with Dumervil as a starter. Gotta find a suitor for him.

Gotta find a suitor for him.If Denver is gonna find a suitor for him I hope he can get 10 sacks this year becuz his contract is huge and that means a low pick with no sacks and a big contract? Would a player for player trade be better I think I would go that way if I were GM...

I think Elvis was much more effective in the 3-4 defense. He didnt seem as good a couple years ago when they were 4-3... That said I think when he is healthy he isn't that much of a liability in the run game. It wouldn't break my heart if they traded him, but I doubt they could get anything worth while for him between his injury history, and huge contract. Just for the record I'm not trashing him I think he is a good player, I don't wanna get the MacGruder Tebow treatment from Dumervil fans.

Agreed. It would be nice if he could make himself slightly marketable.

Would be nice to see something other than a coverage sack. We need some QB pressure badly... but then again, this is very old news.

Doom played his part and made some good plays this week. He earned his money today.
