Most Broncos observers understand the rationale of why people advocated transition at QB. Tim Tebow shows alot of interesting capabilities that spark the imagination in terms of what is possible in his career, but he also shows with his play that he needs to develop some of his fundamentals to be successful. This is not something unique to Tim, as most young players face the uphill battle of addressing the deficiencies that they brought into the NFL. Some players even have some level of success without really addressing them at all until their bodies force them to (Vick, etc). Tim Tebow has not given us any reason to believe that he sees himself as a finished product who wants to get by without addressing his shortcomings as a player, so I think its reasonable to think that Tebow will work to improve those parts of his game that could be improved. We'll have 11 games this season to track Tebow's progress in those areas.
It seems to be consistent among observers that Tebow needs to work on the following things:
Handling the ball from center
Reading NFL defenses
Rhythm/Footwork while taking drops
Accuracy (especially between the hashes)
I conservatively expect that it will take about a month for the changes in Tebow's game to really start coming to fruition. His practice and game exposure really start taking off now. This is the first time he has had a coach and a staff committed on a weekly basis to getting him intensive practice with the first team. Within a few weeks, he'll have developed timing and repoire with his offensive personnel. That's when I think we'll really start seeing Tebow grow. At that point, opposing coaches will start noticing Tebow's tendancies...the plays and players he likes in certain situations...and they'll start understanding the way he executes plays in those situations. So they'll squeeze Tebow on those plays and force him to adapt. Its at that point that we'll start seeing Tebow stretch his game in new directions as the staff identifies those game plan adaptations and then regularly formulates and implements their own adaptations to exploit what those defensive adaptations present the team with.
