"Because you were undrafted, was there a brief moment during that time when you worried about whether you'd even get a chance in the NFL? If so, did you ever have a back-up plan in case you never got to play?
Neal, Denver

Smith: That's why I graduated with three degrees. (Smith earned degrees in economics, marketing and business administration from Missouri Southern). I knew I had to be prepared if my dream of football didn't work out. Having those degrees helped me go after my dreams."

His kid (Rod Smith, Jr) is playing HS Ball at Cherry Creek.

Another Rod for us in 6-8 years?

He was the ultimate professional. Smith worked for everything he got. I wonder if he ever tried talking to Brandon Marshall when he was a Bronco?

Loved the passive money comment to his kid. That cracked me up.

He did. Brandon would have been an even bigger head case if he hadn't.

Actaully he was brought in to mentor him.. and typical BM he said he wanted get better and was until his next FUBAR..

bm is a waste of human sperm.. great talent but totally screwed betweent eh ears..

When someone nicknamed him baby TO it was a sign of things to come..but then LOADS of WR are ME players and just have to be "the MAN".

a real shame that Rod could not turn the moron around..

Seeing as most of Rod's success was due to his work ethic and character, not physical talent, I doubt it. Unless he's managed to instill that really well into his son...

well he was not always a character guy.. wife beating well leaves a lot to be desired.. But he seemed to "get it" and turned out to be a class palyer..

him and Eddie Mac were hard to beat.. add Sharpe and TD into the mix with John Boy throwing it.

Magic..

Not to condone anything that may have happened, but unless I'm wrong Rod's incident with his wife was a one-time thing and no charges were filed.

Calling him a wife-beater might be a bit of a stretch.

I don't know if charges were filed either but he did complete a 36 week anger management course. She was his common law wife and she left after that incident for Florida, they did not get back together. I abhor wife beaters (and that's what they are, 1 time or 100) but I always admired him for recognizing a horrible problem and working on it.

He had anger management issues and it was more than once.

Pretty sure there were police reports (arrests) or it would not become public knowledge.

But maybe he just decided to fess up publicly for NO reason.

Rod Smith used to say only 2 things get him going, playing football, and punching his bitches in the face.
