And sorry about bein' a "dick". Im just nervous about playing the Pens. Theres a reason all other teams fanbases complain about how the refs favor the Pens. I live in Michigan and Red Wings fans always complain, Tortorello just said what all coaches think, Drapes just made a statement, and not to mention hfboards forums. You must have some serious blinders if you dont notice it. All I want is a even officiated series. Good luck.

OILERS WIN NHL DRAFT LOTTERY TO SECURE NO. 1 OVERALL PICK

no team thats been that bad for that long has not gone on to win the cup, penguins, 84-86 top 4 nordiques, 89-91 #1 penguins, 02-06 top 5 oilers. 10-12 #1

book it, within 5 years the oilers win a cup

I live near Detroit and I can't stand the Red Wings but as an organization you have to respect them. I can't imagine the Oilers after they draft Yakupov.
Ederle,RNH,Nail,Hall,Gagner,Hemsky, and hopefully Paajarvi(if he pans out). Now if they can only get a defense.

The Red Wings have done what they have done with excellent scouting, luck and taking chances. They have been pretty consistently taking flawed players with big upside in later rounds, and some of them have panned out huge. Obviously having Lidstrom and Yzerman and an owner who considers the salary cap to be the budget helps as well.

WTG Kings and FLyers, 1 down 3 more to go

Commissioner Gary Bettman has disciplined Colin Campbell for saying "he's almost as upset as the Pittsburgh Penguins over a missed offside call that led to a goal in Wednesday's playoff opener with the Philadelphia Flyers."

According to Mr. Bettman, "the official League position is that we are just as upset as the Pittsburg Penguins and I have issued an apology to Mr. Lemieux for this terrible miscarriage of justice and failure on the part of Mr. Campbell to show his full and obsequious support."

And its funny how Pens fans think the league doesn't favor them. What an embarrassing statement by Bettman, I bet he blew Lemieux afterwards. I didn't see a statement for the blown icing call or Clowe reaching over the bench with his stick and poking the puck. This is a PERFECT example of why the NHL is a joke. I hope Bettman dies soon. I'm simply not interested in watching it. How the **** can you not even win one ****ing game at home to start out the series when you have leads? How is that even physically possible? This is ****ing pathetic. Really, 7 goals and an EN?

I'm not sure why I should watch Game 3. The best thing that can happen is we would be down 2-1 which in of itself is unacceptable, so why would I be rooting hard for something that's unacceptable?

I don't care if they come storming back to win the series. They have the talent to do it, but obviously PHI is in their heads. It's largely a mental issue. They'd have to expend a ton of effort to do it and it should not even get to that point.

Chadta, please PM me the address and name I should mail the check to and who the $ 20.00 check should be written to. Again, its irrelevant if they come back and win the series. I'm not seeing how thats relevant. The fact is they can't avoid playing like **** against Philadelphia at home and thats unacceptable. Please send me a PM as soon as you get a chance. As a Flyers fan that might have been the best game I've seen in a long time. Two hat tricks both by 2 of my favorites. No one seems to notice that a 19year old rookie has completely shutdown Malkin, and also scored a hat trick. Giroux/Schenn/Couturier will be a badass combination of centers for years to come.

I don't think its all Flower. The defensive coverage has been so poor and alot of it is mental frustration. They felt they should be up 2-0, not down 0-2 and they're boiling. It takes only the slightest thing going wrong (such as that shorthanded goal where the puck went off the defenseman and Fleury bobbled it) for it to just snowball and thats what happened. If it wasn't that, anything else, no matter how small it was, would have just blew it up, as well. It's not really realistic to say put the other games behind you and just focus on this one. No. That's not how reality works. Even if they won this, it would have been a long shot and they knew it, so there was nothing you could realistically say to get them in the right frame of mind. Offensively, they're still churning out goals (except for Geno, who I'm sure is very frustrated) but outside of that, they have been horrendous.

Bylsma is going to have to get fired (he's a good coach, but there has to be some bloodletting and he's the one) and they have to get rid of Martin. There are just bad matchups out there. This might have been just about the only really bad one for them in the whole tournament, but that's who they got in Round 1. It's obviously 100% mental. I am totally convinced of this.

Sorry socal you are wrong, the goaltending has been terrible on both sides, the difference is the flyers are a much deeper team, when it comes to scoring.

Not a very tough team tho, and take way to much crap, if im the coach, when they are a man down with 5 minutes left on the powerplay, i pull the goalie, and go start a line brawl.

After neal takes out coots, then goes for giroux i send zac rinaldo out to take out malkin or cindy, that cheap crap should have been answered hard and fast, laviolette was retarded putting giroux jagr and voracek out there after the hit on coots.

Yes we won the game, but that could have been disastrous for our chances going forward, it should have been answered, and im pissed about it.

I didn't say the goaltending wasnt terrible, but that that wasnt the only issue. The defensive coverage is terrible and their forechecking system doesn't work against this team. I expected them to try something more conservative since it wasn't working earlier, maybe a trap (gasp) to slow them down, but it was more of the same. Also Orpik and Martin are playing terribly and Letang isn't having a good series. They are missing physical defensemen (Scuderi and Gill from 09).

And I can understand you being upset about Neal and also Asham gooning it up. They were frustrated, just like the whole team was.

Certainly didn't have the Flyers up 3-0, thought this would be a 7 game series.

Couple things...

Penguins have a lot of problems, and I am usually high on Flower since I think he has potential to be a great goalie in the NHL but I don't think he is mentally tough yet. He lets in one goal and then the dam breaks.

Second problem is Malkin, who I think is the best player in the NHL and have wanted the Kings to trade for him for years now. Obviously he's not going anywhere from Pittsburgh, but he doesn't look like he's going full speed and isn't as crisp as he can be. Only two points and is a -5?

Lastly, Penguins have let the Flyers completely live in their heads rent free. Some bad cheap shots in this game.

For once I agree with you...for the most part. Chadta was dead on with his remark on the terrible goaltending on both sides. Difference is the Flyers have been dealing with it all year and have relied on their offensive depth to win games. I'll have to find the statistic but with the number of games they've given up the first goal, it's remarkable they are even in the playoffs. They've been down by 2 goals or more in 13 out of 16. Bryz makes some key saves but also has had some leakers, especially today.

Pens fans are frustrated with Fluery this series. That's our whole season in a nutshell.

We are frustrated with many things. I believed and still believe this is the best team in the NHL. How they could get to this point is baffling to me. Yes, I know you guys have had our number for the better part of two years, but this just defies all logic. I'm frustrated because it should not get to the point where you just want to win one game in Rd 1 before going home. How can that be with the two best players in the world? I know why they just went off like demons. Because they are ****ing furious with everything that has happened. They've averaged 4 goals a game in the series and are somehow down 3-0. That's absurd on its face. It's like no lead is safe and it doesnt matter how hard you work, sometimes if you get like a bunch of great chances to get that final dagger goal and Bryzgalov, while not great, makes the key save when he has to (2nd period Game 1) or the post does (Staal game 1), and then one lazy turnover and it gets past Flower (who I dont want to harp on because he's had a great year and takes it especially hard when things go bad....a few years ago, when Michel Therrien was the coach, Flower was known to go absolutely bat**** crazy after poor performances, throwing things in the lockerroom and ****). It just taxes the life out of them, I'm sure. I feel bad for the team because you guys are totally in our heads. You have to give it to the Flyers though, they have played very well and been super resilient and showed a ton of mental toughness. Their young players have done terrific work all over the ice.

I think Letang is pretty damn good(not this series), and Dupuis/Stall are solid but the Flyers have a wayyyyyy better TEAM. Giroux(~4-5th best in NHL), Hartnell, Simmonds, Briere, Voracek, Jagr, Schenn, Couturier, Van Riemsdyk(injured), Read, Talbot, Pronger(injured), Timmonen. The Flyers top 9 is IMO the best in the NHL and they are so young still. That's why I love this team and NEVER got upset once they traded Carter/Richards. They are so deep and can go far in the playoffs because any of those guys I listed besides the Dmen and Injured players can score at any time. Just wait until guys like Schenn, Couturier, Read, Simmonds, Voracek, Van Riemsdyk get older and more experience, this team could be a dynasty.

In game 3, they had more shots but coughed the puck up more times and took stupid retaliation penalties. He basically let the dude skate 15 ft from Bryz and rip a slapshot, then got upset at bryz.

I wouldn't count them out yet. They asserted how much better in reality they are when Fluery finally settles down like he did in period 2 and 3. I could easily see games 5,6 and 7 going the same way.

I know they dug themselves a hole but that hole isn't as deep when your playing against Bryzgalov.

I'm not a hockey guy but from an outsiders perspective the defense in the Flyers/Pens series has been a joke. 7, 13, 12, and 13 goals scored in the games thus far. That doesn't appear to be "playoff hockey" to me and almost looks like a joke. What's going on here, and what does it mean (if anything) for whichever team advances?

I was at a conference in Anaheim the last three days so I didn't see our 10-3 win, but I doubt it materially changes anything in the series. Its 3-1, which means we have to win 3 more in a row, which is simply not realistic. I think we could take Game 5, if we could win a ****ing home game, but I can't see it going past Game 6.

reverse mojo isnt going to work, but just incase, i am actually quite worried, if the flyers dont end it friday, the pressure will be all on them sunday at game 6, and the flyers have been better on the road then at home this year.

personally as much as it sucks, id rather lose like that, then lose a close game where you have all kinds of what ifs, at least they know they got blasted, and arent second guessing anything.

tell me what part of a hockey play involves jumping with your elbow out directly at an opponents head. Malkin is one of the dirties players in the league, but he gets away with it.

This is the exact thing that they should be cracking down on, not the hit on hossa who needs to learn to not lindros ( skate around with his head down), or the hit on mike smith who went down like he was shot, when in reality the goalies have a safe zone, its called a crease, if they leave it they should be fair game.

Hopefully now that Sid is fully healthy and will have a whole summer to get back into things, we can make a big run next year, although they'll have to get rid of Martin, pick up another defenseman to replace him and maybe they'll have to trade Staal as he's coming up on UFA soon and he isn't pleased with being a 3rd line center. To refresh your memory, Tippet as a coach in Dullass had no answers when Marty Turco started his annual choke job in the playoffs. Eventually, you get canned in this league when you can't figure out how to advance in the playoffs.

So, if the Stanley Cup winner happens to be from the west this year, it will be that team's first cup.

I disagree on your assessment of Tippet. I've seen quite a few Coyotes games..they always seem ready to play. I have never seen them get blown out or play like they don't give a **** like I've seen so many times with the Avs since Sacco became coach.

Not to mention that Tippett had to deal with the circus of the ownership of the Coyotes and whether or not the team will be in Phoenix the following year. He deserves a lot of credit for their success lately and so does Mike Smith.

Kind of weird to see the Wings, Canucks, Sharks, Hawks all bounced from the 1st round.

One of the worst officiating games I have ever seen. This was horrible to watch. Very undeserving the Rangers even won this game. Like it or not the refs handed them the game.

I agree bad calls on both sides....Neil's a little bitch though. Same hit he puts on Boyle and cries like a bitch....

I love it. Always nice to see a team that has never won it win it. Other than Chicago, I couldn't be happier the other teams are done. If Chicago was playing anyone other than Phoenix, I woulda been pulling for them.

Wings, Cantnucks and Hawks yes.
Sharks? Nope. They get bounced regularly from the 1st round.
Has SJ fired that HC yet?

I think McLellan gets another year. Unless the Sharks want to go with Marc Crawford, which would be Marc's third Pacific Division team he's coached.

Going to game 2 of the Coyotes Preds series. Doubt there will be nearly as many Nashville fans as there were Hawks fans. This should be another close series.

Ken Dryden's take on the state of the NHL is a good read. I have to agree that there is a lack of respect between players out there.

Kings up 2-0 and game 3 is at Staples on Thursday!

Did you know? The Kings are now 5-0 on the road in the 2012 postseason. The last 2 teams to start the playoffs like that, Edmonton in 1987 and Tampa Bay in 2004, won the Cup. [Kevin Gibson]

Nice win. Just an absolute ass kicking.
Physically beat the sh!t outta them.
LA is looking like the strongest team playing for the cup right now.
They are HOT, and playing well in all phases of the game.

Back to Jersey.

Kings win 4-2, up 3-0 in the series. Going for the sweep on Sunday, at noon pacific time.

Hmmm...that's a good question.

They are both very solid teams, obviously and they have world class goaltenders. I'll just go with Phoenix even though their style of hockey does counter the Kings pretty well. That potential series would require less travel for the Kings and a lot of King fans would travel to Phoenix for the WCF.

I'm not sure it would be an upset. Their regular season records were essentially identical (only one point separated them).

i think the fact that the flyers took out the team many picked to win the cup, coupled with the fact that it took the devils 7 games to eek out a series win over the worst team to make the playoffs made the flyers favorites.

Much like the penguins, i think the flyers figured they had already won and didnt need to show up, because they are playing like ass, that 4-1 game was the worst flyer game i have seen going back to the year they were so bad they lost the draft lottery, if jersey wasnt so offensively inept they easily could have had more then the 10 spot that the penguins put up on the last piss poor performance.

I'm not a Sacco fan, but ultimately he's not the problem. Talent level is. When they're playing his style which is fun to watch...they win. They just haven't given the consistent effort. It's part of a young team's growth pattern. Ask the resident gimp (read:Kings fan) and he'll be able to tell you all about it.

I don't mean to say Sacco doesn't get out-coached sometimes...I just think he gets too much of the blame. They also don't spend money anymore. But I am completely buying their waiting until the next CBA deal to throw any money around. They got completely screwed last time. They had to gut their team.
