always wondered what, physiologically, is different about guys like favre vs sanders, that allows some guys to take whatever you can throw at them and last, whereas others literally cannot take the rigors of the game. just so many factors that go into it, but how much is luck?

sucks to hear this, I'm from IA originally and watched Sanders make plays for the Hawkeyes in college. He plays with Romanowski's tenacity but at 200 pounds and his body wont take it.

Good for us Broncos fans though, who's the back up?

It's called steroids, and they break down your body over time. Haven't you ever seen Bob Sanders' physique? He looks like he was carved out of stone.......I always suspected steroids.

One could argue that he made more of a difference in the playoffs/super bowl run than even Payton Manning.

I'd have never dreamed a lil 5'8" scrappy safety could do what I watched with my own eyes that year. Nobody will ever be able to take that ring from him. He sure as hell earned it.

Sanders and DT in a foot race around the field, which one makes it to the finish line without an injury ???

And yes, Nate Jackson is keeping time....

And yes, Nate Jackson is keeping time....

Sanders thinks of his SB Ring & DPOTY award, and suddenly stops running while carrying a sly grin on his face. DT wins the race and thinks of that TD he once scored.

Sure, one could argue that. It just wouldn't be a very good argument...

Explain yourself. I'll go first. Peyton had crappy numbers throughout that SB run. The Colts D went from worst in the league against the rush to an elite run stopping team when Sanders came back right before the playoffs. Seems pretty cut and dry.

Pretty obvious to me Ozo. Anyone who watched playoff football knows Manning was horrible in the postseason except when facing the Broncos.

He had a lucky game against the Pats but Sanders was huge.

So it seems "cut and dry" that a safety was more important overall to the team than the QB? Look, Sanders was great in that stretch but he wasn't more important than Peyton Manning.

peyton manning if i recall correctly did about everything he could to lose that postseason..

research comes up with:
@ ravens: Colts QB Peyton Manning finished the game 15 of 30 with 170 passing yards and two interceptions, final score: 15-6

You remember correctly. Even his Super Bowl MVP was a sham in my eyes. He did nothing special and never has in the playoffs except when playing us.

Who wins Super Bowl MVP with 25/38 for 247 yards, an INT, and just one TD?

Manning that's who.

So you're going to support the story that a Colts team without Peyton Manning would have beat a Colts team without Bob Sanders? Think about what you're suggesting here. Think about how much effort each of their opponents put into stopping Manning, and how much more effort they could have put into stopping other people without Manning on the field. I'm sorry but no how poorly Manning may have played a ****ing safety was not more important to the success of that team. This may be one of the sillier arguments I've ever seen on the Mane, and that's saying something.

I think what he is saying is They won that super bowl and had the playoff run but Peyton manning did really bad.... If bob sanders wouldn't have had as great of run as he did the colts wouldn't have won that super bowl... Therefore making an argument that bob sanders was more important than Peyton manning

it's definitely not shocking. i was hoping he could stay healthy as i'm a fan of his. but at the same time, it's getting to be like Courtney Brown now. he needs to think about his quality of life after football now.
