President Obama’s smooth path to the Democratic nomination may have gotten rockier Monday, after a group of liberal leaders, including former presidential candidate Ralph Nader, announced plans to challenge the incumbent in primaries next year.

The group said the goal is to offer up a handful of candidates from various fields and areas where the president either has failed to stake out a “progressive” position or where he has “drifted toward the corporatist right.”

I hope they don't because Obama has no chance to win.

it'd most likely be a freakazoid like kucinich or even nader himself, so obama's got nothing to fret about. this is a ploy to feign liberal disgust with obama, all the while fully planning on voting for the guy.

but, we can be sure that obama would do any number of things during the primary run to make himself look even sillier. the question is will the media report them and will the liberals, in the end, give a rip. no on both accounts.

It would be great to make Obama have to run left in a primary right now. That is the last thing he wants to do. You could even see Cheney playing into it the other day praising hilliary saying he wishes she was still in DC, she is competent, way more so then Obama etc etc.

The repubs will try and sow discord among the liberals to either cut off money to Obama, or just make him say some things he would rather not talk about.

Still Nadar and Kucinich are just liberals who never waver from there positions because they have integrity that the politicians that get elected dont have.

Just like true conservatives who would speak there mind and do what they really want cant get elected either.

Having a primary challenger eats up money, provides competition (and some dirt as the candidates compete), and will leave some voters apathetic to voting if they get behind someone in the primary and then their candidate loses. It surely can't hurt.
