Has any single player meant more to a team or had a team based around them more than peyton Manning?

The colts are TERRIBLE without him.

If Green bay, or New england, etc.... lost rodgers, brady, etc...... they might not be SB contenders........ but to see a team sink this low over one player is crazy.

Orton. but in a backwards way.

Elway meant as much. We went from Super Bowl winner to 6-10 when he retired.

Yes blame Orton, when he is throwing to a Rookie WR, and Tim tebow.....

prolly not

maybe the Broncos with Elway in the 80s
Falcons did a turn around the year Vick broke his leg

the Colts show though how overrated Polian is
He is considered a good GM yet his recent drafting has been trash

Still....... do you think the colts even have a chance of going 6-10.......

Go farther back around 1988 when we were 8-4 and Elway went down. Finished 8-8 with Reeves' M and M debacle.

The Colts aren't as good as the Broncos team that Elway left. Not even close.

Oh no doubt. From very early on Elway was the Broncos and probably accounted for 6-8 wins a year.

Do you mean Decker? Decker isn't a rookie, and is the only reason Orton looked half decent today (emphasis on the word 'half').

Orton.

Without him managing games for Denver the past three years, Denver turns the ball over every time and loses every game. Its like Obama's stimulus "saving" jobs.

TD, Sharp, Smith, Tons of Defensive guys missed most of the season, I seem to remember

That doesn't make him a rookie. You know that right?

Sure, but it was the loss of Elway that really killed them. That team was done from the first game of the season without him. We all knew it.

To be fair, this Colts team wasn't going to win 12 games with or without Manning.

Nope. They looked like a 9-7 or 10-6 team to me. Now they look like a 3-13 team.

God I remember trying to convince myself Bubby Brister could get the job done.

They went 11-5 with Matt Cassel of all people. Pretty sure they'd be better off than the Colts.

Elway!

Those Super Bowls in the 80's. He was a one man show.

The Dolphins fell apart without Marino and the Bills did with Kelly. You have to plan to replace the franchise

Are you saying that spending a 3rd rounder on Griese wasn't planning? Ha!

I actually think Shanny was shocked that Steve Young didnt come to town. THAT was the plan to replace Elway! In hindsite, we should have just taken a late round flyer on Romo since we tried to sign him as a FA.

Did anyone actually see any of the Colts game? Collins and Reggie Wayne started to develop some chemistry. It's going to take another game or two, but the Colts look like they'll be decent...

Colts played twice as good as they did in HOU, but Collins timing is still way off in this offense. The Colts had 20 yards in the second half of the game until the Browns went into FF prevent mode and let the Colts chew up time and score late.

The Colts screwed the pooch with Manning this year. Huge Contract BEFORE he was medically cleared, then a late Surgery right before the season opener, and no one else who can run the offense on the roster until a week before the season opener ???

If they had Collins and a whole offseason they would be mediocre to under average. However, this is a quick timing offfense based on quick pre snap reads and a no huddle to keep personnel tired and unable to substitute matchups. 70% of the advantages Manning has are not available to their offense and it makes them all look awful.

It's not just that manning is out, it's a lot of HOW they did not have a viable backup to run the Colts offense. Now, they are running a severely limited set of plays without the advantages of their no huddle and quick strike offense. Easily the most affected team with the no offseason and no succession plan in the NFL.
