I'm not thrilled with the idea of them getting that pick, either. It's simply unfair for them to have Manning for 14-15 years or whatever and then get Luck. It does violence to basic principles of equity.

On the other hand, Luck going to an insecure, hick fanbase (KC) who doesn't deserve **** is arguably worse. Seattle is a fair compromise.

On the contrary, I believe Pioli will now feel the need to do something dramatic to show the fans (and Clark Hunt) he can still lead the organization after what seems to be a historically bad 2011 season. They'll dump Haley, which in of itself will bring goodwill from the fanbase and then they'll take Luck, which will make the fans even happier. Happy fans=filled seats=cash=happy owner.

Pioli is no dummy. If he has the oppurtunity to take him, he'll take him. Haley's the only guy in the organization who's ego completely clouds everything rational. I don't think that's the case with Pioli. Pioli can evaluate talent fairly well...he's added some good pieces already to your team. I don't see him being a douche just to be a douche. JMO.

I would bet that Andrew Luck's stats after his 5th NFL start are similar to Tim Tebow's. In fact, Luck is a similar quarterback (period). He's a big thick guy, who likes to run and takes advantage of college defenses.

The difference is he's played in a pro style offense vs. the spread that Tebow played in. Andrew Luck will be a good QB in the NFL...great? Who knows.

If given an adequate chance, Tim Tebow will also be a good QB in the NFL....great? Who knows.

What is the value for a 35-year-old QB with a bad neck coming off a year on inactivity? I can see a team that is close trying it as a high-risk rental. No chance a team in full-blown rebuild would trade for Manning.

I think that trading for Manning would be unwise. However, there is one possible scenario that could work. The Colts draft Luck and decide they don't want to pay Manning 18 million or whatever his cap number is, so they cut him before his big bonus is due. I've read reports where if he is cut by a certain date they can get out of the big contract they signed him to, minus what they owed him this season. I have a feeling that Denver might draft Matt Barkley in the 1st round. If they want to give him some time to develop before starting him, maybe you go after Manning for a 1 year deal that is incentive based and have Barkley study under him for a season before taking over. I would embrace that. Paying big time money for a 36 year old QB coming off of 3 neck surgeries would be a mistake, trading away valuable picks on top of that would be idiotic.

Edit: From Adam Schefter “It’s worth pointing out that the Colts can get out of Manning’s contract after one year and $26 million without any other money being guaranteed, according to a league source,” writes Schefter.

“Manning has a $28 million option bonus/non-exercise bonus in Year 2 that is due on the fifth day before the end of the 2011 league year, according to the source,” adds Schefter. ”But if the Colts cut Manning after Year 1, they pay neither.”

If Manning goes to a team, he wont be going to a rebuilding squad where he's gonna get sacked a half dozen times a game. He'd ruin his legacy and be exposed to further injury if he goes to a 2-14 squad. He'd be better off retiring.

didn't they sign Manning to that outrageous contract a day or two before Manning's most recent health problems came out in the media. seems to me that Manning's people might have known he was unhealthy and likely withheld that information from the Colts. if the Colts really wanted to play hardball, they could go to court and claim the contract was negotiated in bad faith.

Are you retarded? Manning is probably done and even if he isn't he'll be 36 next year. What makes you think they would pass on Luck if they had a shot at him?

how is it retarded. hypothetically if Manning has 3 or 4 years left in the tank after he comes back from this surgery(if he can) and can play at 90% of what he has been the last decade he is still a top 5 QB in the league, and if the surgery and recovery is successful it is no stretch that the guy could potentially play until he is 40 or older. in today's pussified no touching the QB NFL he hasn't suffered and real traumatic injuries and have limited wear and tear on his body aside from his neck.

i would gladly ship a 1st round pick to Indy to have him in Denver for the next 4 years until we found our QBOTF.

and if Indy does draft Luck, Denver needs to be on the phone immediately after the pick is announced to talk about trading for Manning.

Who knows.

Another difference is that Tebow has seen some great defenses in the SEC. Luck? People don't really think of defense, when they think of the Pac-12. I'm just sayin'...

The Colts have a Franchise QB and looking like the worst team in the NFL. At this point i am willing to sell my dogs soul for a package trade for either Manning or the 1st pick in the draft.

Are you retarded? Manning is probably done and even if he isn't he'll be 36 next year. What makes you think they would pass on Luck if they had a shot at him?

Wow...just wow...

Hilarious!

Had no clue what his post was about. Probably something retarded.

Then Mile High Mojoe quoted it...

Yep. Removed all doubt.

You would have been much smarter if you actually followed your advice last year and left the Mane (and Broncos).

how is it retarded. hypothetically if Manning has 3 or 4 years left in the tank after he comes back from this surgery(if he can) and can play at 90% of what he has been the last decade he is still a top 5 QB in the league, and if the surgery and recovery is successful it is no stretch that the guy could potentially play until he is 40 or older. in today's pussified no touching the QB NFL he hasn't suffered and real traumatic injuries and have limited wear and tear on his body aside from his neck.

i would gladly ship a 1st round pick to Indy to have him in Denver for the next 4 years until we found our QBOTF.

and if Indy does draft Luck, Denver needs to be on the phone immediately after the pick is announced to talk about trading for Manning.

Good call on how it'd play out but I continue to temper my expectations for Manning. I'm happy we got him because it gets rid of Tebowmania and if he really is back, this will be fantastic but there's a wide gap between "better than Tebow" and "Peyton Manning of 5 years ago". I think Peyton falls in that gap but whether he's closer to one side or the other, I don't know. We'll see.
