He's old and washed up IMO. Can't believe we would need safety help with 2 number 1 picks and some other young players on the team. We are all banged up though maybe someone is hurt and I haven't paid attention. I didn't even look at the Broncos injury report, its full, I know. The angle on profootball talk was that sometimes these tryout are the team doing a favor for the agent. As in if you get the guy a tryout it makes it look like you are trying to get the player a job. Then down the road that agent may talk a player into making a visit to Denver even if player was like, meh Denver, not sure about them etc etc.

He can't be TOO much worse than Orton.

Lol. Clearly haven't spent enough resources on safety and we need some age sprinkled in our DBs

I wonder if Moore is banged up. He left the game last week and came back...although it's hard to imagine Sharper has enough range to play FS.

until the broncos get a franchise player, denver is just going to be a stop off for players and coaches.

I had two thoughts as to why they could be thinking about bringing him in, could be one or both (or neither I suppose):

1) Currently when they go to the nickel they move Champ on the slot, Vaughn outside and Wilhite comes in at Safety for Dawk (Mays is the LB that comes off the field and the 2 LBs are normally Woody and DJ, right now Haggan is in for DJ). Not sure how this will change if Champ's out this week, but maybe they view Sharper as an upgrade to Wilhite on passing downs.

Also as an unrelated FYI, they have a 4-3 "speed base" where Vaughn or Wilhite would come in for Dawk but they went away from it in the 2nd half since Oakland kept running the ball.

2) To combat teams running out of 3 WR sets, a few teams are going with a big nickel set of 3 safeties similar to what Denver did in 2005 with Sam Brandon (who I maintain was very underrated to the team's success that year). They could view Sharper as a guy who could fill that role and they can go with him, Dawk and Moore in those situations.

Can you point out the "big deal" in this thread?

Having trouble finding it, but you clearly mention there is one, so help a brother out.

i hear McAlister can be had for cheap. he's old, broke, and living with his folks.... and he's NOT a defensive lineman, so let's get him in here for a tryout!!!

Maybe they saw Moore on tape....and figured out that he's a rookie?

That's my best guess. Why not bring in Sharper and have the oldest pair of safeties in the NFL? Sounds like John Fox to me.

Sharper has earned the right... he's a veteran.

remember the days we used to get excited about signing old, aging veterans? read: simeon rice. now we just inevitably know that if we sign them they will suck.

At this point I would at least call Tiki Barber and have him come in for a workout.

no. that was only 10 words. Dierdorf would have said the same thing, but used 624 words, 27% of which would be pronounced with a lisp.
