Tracking Fox-isms!

Let's follow some of the off-season John Fox promises and statements as we go through the season, shall we?

Week one:

We will have the most sophisticated running game in the NFL

An NFL worst #32 in the league in rushing.

38 total yards and 2.9 ypc. Over a third of which came on a QB scramble.

Oh and 1 fumble.

I want a "gamer" at QB

It's gonna be hard to keep up this pace, but coming off his NFL worst season in Carolina last year, I think he can do it!

I expect the running game to have struggles. Its not like we had a probowl RB who got hurt and thats why our rungame went to hell.

But it would probably help if we had a QB behind center who defenses had to worry about burning them deep on blitzes...

Its whateve though. Yay Orton...

No, that's #2.

Actually it's number 1. By a wide margin.

This team won it's championships with the ****ing RUNNING GAME. Do you really not see the importance of having even a COMPETENT running game?

I'm not sure the other night's performance from the RBs and offensive line can even be called a running game, it was so ****ing pathetic.

If you really don't think that fixing the run game on both sides of the ball is the most important thing this team should address, you're either not smart or know absolutely nothing about football.

38 yards? Are you joking? "No, that's number 2. It'll be okay soon."

Ridiculous.

Calm down son. You have an opinion, that's adorable. No need to get all worked up about it.

I agree that the running game was beyond pathetic. Many would argue that in this league you need to establish the pass to get the safeties out of the box so you can run. I realize that their DTs destroyed our Oline, but they had absolutely NO respect for our passing game. Orton sucked beyond belief. I had absolutely NO faith he would get the job done in the redzone.

The QB is the leader of the team, and if you ask me... our leader sucks. He is the most important piece of the puzzle and he just doesn't fit.

Can you point out which of the runs was "sophisticated"?

Or how our personnel impeding our "sophistication" in the running game?

So are you starting a campaign against the new regime already?

Teams do not respect the Bronco passing game nor the QB able to make a big play once out of the pocket, so hard to run when the defense is putting most of their players within 5 yards of the LOS. As I mentioned in another thread, I have given Orton the benefit of the doubt he would be a good QB for this team, but I just no longer can do that. Just too many times he can't make the quick decision to rid of the ball before getting sacked or making some kind of blunder. He's not a young QB anymore. Those mistakes should be gone by now.

The hardest part to come to grips with is how horrible our DL has been and the fact they did next to nothing to invest in it. Sad.

No.

...but if they keep performing like they did Monday, absolutely.

Either way, should be funny to keep track of for better or for worse and provide some entertainment if people can lighten up enough to poke some fun at our currently god awful situation.

1st Drive:

1st-10, DEN20 15:00 K. Moreno rushed to the left for 1 yard gain
2nd-9, DEN21 14:30 K. Orton passed to S. Larsen to the left for 15 yard gain
1st-10, DEN36 13:49 K. Orton passed to B. Lloyd to the right for 11 yard gain
1st-10, DEN47 13:15 K. Moreno rushed to the left for 1 yard gain
2nd-9, DEN48 12:35 K. Moreno rushed to the left for 6 yard loss
3rd-15, DEN42 11:50 K. Orton passed to W. McGahee down the middle for 12 yard gain
4th-3, OAK46 11:00 B. Colquitt punt, touchback. Oakland committed 10 yard penalty

Clearly it's all Orton's fault that the running game was dog****.

What is going on with his fingers? Not only are 3 of them curled into his palm, but his thumb is actually over them. How in the world does he hold the ball?

Don't you question the top practice quarterback on this team! He earned that job in non contact drills!

The hardest part to come to grips with is how horrible our DL has been and the fact they did next to nothing to invest in it. Sad.

Well the did sign Warren, make offers to a couple of other FA, some would not even visit, and trade for Bunkley. So lets not say the did nothing. You could say that its really hard to rebuild a defensive line when you dont commit to drafting them. Miller better be good is what I am thinking.

Still not Fox's fault only 2 of Mcdaniels draft picks left starting and both of them seem about as good as the ones we already ditched. By end of the yr we will have a better grasp of what this yrs draft looks like. Decker looks like a gamer though so we do have some good looking young players.

Really though am I the only one that thinks the linebackers just as bad or worst? Miller wasn't playing well, and Woodyard is one of those players that once blocked its over for him. I like him as a bkup utility 3rd down/passing down backer and that is it. Mays is horrid. That guy can not start at MLB in a 4-3 defense. Miller I thought looked lost, like if he cant just rush the passer hes not sure how to make plays. Still I have hope for him.

DJ needs to get healthy and fast....and I don't even like him that much. I thought he was bad at shedding blocks until i watched woodyard play his spot.

The safetys were not challenged in pass coverage, but i wasn't super impressed with them coming up and making plays in the run game.

Now is the dline part of the problem? hell yes, but sometimes the mane makes it out like we are dline away from a good defense. Really we are great players away from a good defense. We could use them in the secondary, and the front 7. We need a killer power DE as much as we do a DT imo. Ayers is a joke. I saw all I need to see from him to say he will never dominate the guy in front of him.

Fox and the current FO have already done a lot to improve on the front 7 with actual players like Miller/Bunkley/Warren instead of just bringing in ex Patriot trash, along with having a decent draft.

It's not their fault they're saddled with Walton/Beadles who look constantly over whelmed.

No, he's actually the best DT we've had for a long while. It's not the FO/Fox's fault he got injured.

Guys like Jarvis Green, Le Kevin Smith etc are ex patriot trash.

How sad what a disgrace this franchise has become.

They invest next to nothing in the DL, yet people still defend it.

I'm not defending anything.

I'm giving this current staff the same benefit I gave McDaniels the first two seasons (more or less).

Like it or not, Bunkley/Warren are better than what we've seen brought in for a while.

Oooh forgot this one:

Running with the 1's at practice. Kid played a solid game and is being rewarded for it.

I do like this quote from the coach
"If you can play," Fox said, "I don't care where you came from."

What he meant was: "If you can play, I'm going to use you as a hollow example for effort and then, despite your performance, relegate you to the PS despite injuries to your position"
